Luke 10:18-19 NLT “Yes, He told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning. Look I have given you authority over all power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.”
10:18,19
Jesus may have been looking ahead to His victory over Satan at the cross. (John
12:31;32), indicates that Satan would be judged and driven out at the time of
Jesus’ death. On the other hand, Jesus may have been warning His disciples
against pride. Perhaps He was referring to Isaiah 14:12-17, which begins, “How
you are fallen from heaven, O shining star, son of the morning!” Some
interpreters identify this verse with Satan and explain that Satan’s pride led
to all the evil we see on earth today. To Jesus’ disciples, who were thrilled with
their power over evil spirits (“snakes and scorpions”), He may have been giving
this stern warning: “Yours is the kind of pride that led to Satan’s downfall.
Be careful!
We
must grow in our faith in God and realize He is the most important factor in our
lives; we must rely upon God being with us not the power He places within us.
God has built our faith upon Him, and we can see first-hand His love and
faithfulness He has shown toward us. Yes, the enemy tries to take us out on
many occasions because he hates us having a relationship with God, but he will
never succeed because we are God’s children who God will see through. Nothing
will hurt or harm us as God shows us, like Job, before Satan can touch us he
has to first get the permission from God. We know that God works all things
together for good for those that love God and are called in accordance with His
purposes. Every detail of our lives is in God’s control; this is a great
assurance to us when we face our enemies. Our faith is in the ability of Jesus
Christ’s Name and Blood. Jesus has won the victory over Satan and all his evil
forces, and equally we share in the victory in Jesus’ Name.
